MARK W. TIPTON

Mark Tipton is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Georgia Commerce Bank (GCB) as well as Georgia Commerce Bancshares, Inc. Established on July 1, 2003, Georgia Commerce Bank is a full service bank primarily serving the needs of metropolitan Atlanta’s business community as well as the professional and executive market.

Mr. Tipton previously held numerous senior positions during his 15 year tenure with First Union Corporation. He served as Executive Vice President and head of Commercial Banking for First Union National Bank of Georgia. In this position, he was responsible for all Corporate, Middle Market, Real Estate, Public Finance and Government Banking as well as all Credit Underwriting activities for the state of Georgia. Prior to that, he served for several years as Group President for North Atlanta (Cobb, North Fulton and Gwinnett), where he was responsible for the Consumer Branch System of over 35 branches and all small business/commercial lending activities. Mr. Tipton joined First Union in June of 1988.

Prior to First Union, Mr. Tipton began his banking career with Texas Commerce Bank (TCB) in Houston, Texas in 1981. After completing the Commercial Banking Officer Development Program, he held various positions during his seven-year tenure with TCB. These positions included Credit Department Manager, Vice President of Regional Banking, and Executive Vice President and Manager of Texas Commerce Bank-Northwest in Dallas, Texas. At TCB-Northwest, Mr. Tipton had total management responsibility for the day-to-day operations of a $75 million asset-size unit bank of the Texas Commerce Bancshares Holding Company. He resigned from TCB in 1988 to join First Union Bank of Georgia.

Mr. Tipton earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1981 from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1978.

Mr. Tipton is Chairman of the Tulane Associate Board of Directors in New Orleans and also serves on Tulane’s President’s Council. He is a member of the Georgia Tennis Foundation Board and was previously on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta where he also served as Board Chairman. He has completed the Leadership North Fulton Development Program and has served on the boards of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Chattahoochee Nature Center, and the National Tulane University Alumni Association.

Mr. Tipton and his wife Diana live in Atlanta.
